Spotify Launches “Profile Protection”
A New Way to Protect Catalogs
Spotify now offers an artist profile protection tool. This optional feature adds a moderation step. Specifically, before any music is linked to an artist’s profile.
How Does Profile Protection Work?
When artists activate this feature, they gain full control. This control is over releases linked to their profile. In other words, they decide what appears.
Artists will be able to:
- Approve or decline releases: Songs will only appear on the profile. This requires explicit confirmation.
- Protect metrics: This ensures only actual releases count. They contribute to streaming data. They also affect algorithmic recommendations.
- Response window: Artists have up to 28 days. This is after the release date. They can approve or reject a track link. Otherwise, the profile is automatically removed from the release.
- Where to manage: Songs needing validation appear under Music > Approvals. This tab is available on both the app and web versions of Spotify for Artists.

- Have a very common stage name. They frequently deal with incorrect catalog associations.
- Have experienced repeated issues. Third-party tracks were linked to their profile by mistake
- Are on an artistic hiatus. Alternatively, they go long periods without releasing new music.

- Release music very frequently. Also, they do many collaborations (feats). The approval step can slow down the rollout process.
- Do not want to manage approvals manually. They have never had issues with profile mix-ups.
How to Get Access
The feature is still in beta. It is being rolled out gradually. This is for a limited group of artists. To check if you have access, simply log into your Spotify for Artists dashboard. Go to Settings. Look for Artist Profile Protection.
